Online Interactive Workshop - Crystal Pattern Mystery Quilt
Time for something completely different! In Lucy Brennan's latest class you will use the Crystal Mystery Pattern to create a Structured Improv quilt or patchwork top for a cushion. Made up of three types of blocks, the pattern is machine pieced to make a striking impact through the use of colour and tone. Create blocks with any combination of colours and let the mystery unfold as you sew them into a unique ‘crystal’ layout.
What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-
Every version is an original and no two are alike! Lucy will guide you through an exploration of colour gradients and help you design a stunning layout using the mystery blocks you create. Choose your own colours and freely play with compositions as Lucy offers tips to making a modern striking pattern. With precise piecing instructions, traditional methods are given a twist and the mystery element makes this class so much fun!
You can make this pattern to any size, the smaller version is made up of 2.5” blocks and the larger version is 6.5” blocks. You can use fat quarters or yardage. Lucy recommends choosing at least eight colours, in whatever colour gradient you chose in a mix of light, medium and dark shades. You can also use ombre fabrics for added effect. Solid colours or tone on tone prints work really well too.

Introduction by Trudi
Ever wondered why some people get it and some people don’t, or you’ve tried it and didn’t get on with it? I was making way too many quilt tops back in the day, and never had enough time to hand quilt them. So I taught myself to free motion quilt in order to finish my quilts faster. If you have all the right information and tools, you will have a better experience each time you quilt. We will cover some basic designs to get you going, and look at how to finish. The different ways to tackle a quilt and how to manage a large quilt in your domestic machine.

Online Interactive Workshop - Moon Phase Hand Appliqué
Introduction by Kerry
I just love hand sewn appliqué! It’s brilliant as a portable project and it’s also a great way to embrace, enjoy and appreciate slow sewing. I also love working with bold graphic shapes and the phases of the moon are such a strong image - mother nature is the best designer - that they were calling to me to become an appliqué design: I almost feel like this project designed itself! In my Moon Phase Hand Appliqué workshop all those arcs and curves are perfect for learning and practicing the art of turning curved and straight raw fabric edges inwards with a beautifully smooth finish. Your moon phase appliqué can be made into a banner-style wall hanging, mini quilt or cushion cover.
What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-
You will learn a variety of hand sewn appliqué techniques in this workshop including: needle turn, stitching outer curves, inner curves, points and straight lines. This includes thread basting, glue basting and foil curves. We will be using a variety of techniques and the pace of this class will be gentle: hand stitching is a slow stitching activity! There are two moon phase layout; one for the Northern hemisphere (shown on the banner) and the other for the Southern hemisphere (as seen on the cushion/mini quilt).
Skill Level for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
This workshop uses hand sewing and you will need be able to sew a basic running and overcast/whip stitch. You do not need any previous hand sewing appliqué experience.

-
Background - FQ dark navy. Either plain/painterly style quilting cotton or cotton lawn, or a multi-direction low contrast pattern can also work.
