ARCHIVE: Sewing & Quilting
Two questions we often get asked are: 'Are your courses suitable for beginners?' 'Do you have a machine I can borrow?' The answer to both is a resounding: 'YES'! We have a limited number of machines available on a first come first/served basis, so please ask us when you book! Beginners & proficient crafters alike can join in with learning, fun, friendship (and cake, always cake)! On a CraftyMonkies Course/Workshop/Retreat, we want you to learn techniques that perhaps you only dreamt of being able to do or improve techniques you'll be able to use on future projects of your own to expand your creative horizons! On these courses you will learn: how to sew with stretch fabric, master an overlocker, sew on a neck, band and cuffs, work with French seams and 'stitch in the ditch'. We'll talk to you about appliqué and how to apply, make pockets all beautifully edged, embroidery, working with strips of fabric and creating family heirlooms and so much more!
Our upcoming and totally unique combined Sewing & Quilting Courses see us offering you retreats and two NEW One-Day Sewing & Quilting Workshops (and, yes, you can attend BOTH days, as each event offers different sewing/quilting projects!) We're also going to make sure there are different projects on every Sewing & Quilting course, so that if you want to come again you wont be making the same thing! The following dates are currently available (with more being added in the coming weeks & months):-
Saturday 30th May 2020 at Millennium Point Birmingham (Workshop)
NOTE: The original dates (28 & 29/3/20) for our Wivenhoe House event have been changed to:-
Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th OCTOBER 2020 at Wivenhoe House Hotel, Colchester (Workshops/Retreat)
Please do keep checking our website and social media (Instagram Facebook and Twitter) to see new courses as & when they're announced! And don't forget that Non-Sewist Partners can also come along and enjoy the hotel accommodation/facilities, and we have other courses - such as Photography! - some times running at the same time, that a partner may well be interested in!...

Free Motion Embroidery
A fun-packed day of, not just one, but TWO crafting techniques!
In the morning session the wonderful Sarah Payne will show you how you can create a fun design using scraps of fabric and your free motion/embroidery foot on your sewing machine. You will learn how to create your design, transfer it onto fabric and then 'draw' it with your sewing machine. This is a fun experimental class and you will end up with one or more raw edged appliqué and free-motion stitched blocks that you can turn into a cushion, frame or use as the basis for a new quilt.
After lunch, in the afternoon you will take the morning’s newly-learned skills and apply then to free-motion quilting. Sarah will show you how to create a practice 'quilt sandwich' and how to add creative quilting designs to add interest to your quilt blocks. Sarah will also supply you with a number of prepared quilt blocks to play with, which you can then turn into a cushion, placemat, wall-hanging, etc when you get home. All in all a pretty fabulous day!
This course is priced at £99 per person (including lunch & light refreshments) and we only have 20 places available, so please be sure you book early to avoid the potential of disappointment!
We very much look forward to welcoming you along on our CraftyMonkies Sewing & Quilting Workshop!
