Sarah Payne - Saturday 06 June 2020 - 3.00pm to 6.00pm (BST)

Online Interactive Workshop - Easy Cathedral Window Cushion

Join Sarah Payne on Saturday 6th June and learn how to create a beautiful Easy Cathedral Window Cushion. On this Online Interactive Workshop you will learn a quick and easy method for making this traditional design. The class requirements are for an 18 inch cushion, however, you can continue to make this into a full quilt if you like! This is a perfect class for beginners as well as more experienced quilters who just love this iconic design.

Requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop are as follows:-

  • Fabric – for this to work well you need a contrast between the arches and the windows. I would suggest the arches (the narrow curved sections) are done in a single plain colour and the rest (patterned) are a mix. You will need a total of ½ metre of the plain and a selection of fat ¼ for the patterned (see below for cutting instructions). To give you a guide, you can get twelve 5 inch squares from a fat ¼. You can also use charm square pre-cuts for the patterned fabric.

  • 2 pieces of fabric for the envelope back of your cushion measuring 20 inches x 14 inches.

  • Wadding and backing fabric for the cushion – 20 inches square.

  • Pins.

  • Sewing machine with a standard sewing machine foot and a walking foot if you have one.

IMPORTANT: Please pre-cut your fabrics before the class. You will need a total of twenty-one 5 inch squares from the patterned fabric and twenty 5 inch squares from the plain.

Tickets for this Online Interactive Workshop (via the Zoom platform) will be limited to 40 on a first-come/first-served basis!

Sarah Payne - Tuesday 16 June 2020 - 10.00am to 1.00pm (BST)

Online Interactive Workshop - Scrappy Strips Quilting

This is a really fun way to work your way through all of those piles of scraps you have been collecting in a corner of your sewing room! Sarah Payne will show you how to create a fun block, and then Quilt-As-You-Go to put it all together. You won’t get the quilt done in this one class, but you can at least make a start! You will be given full instructions after the workshop so you can complete the project at your leisure.

For this Online Interactive Workshop, fabric requirements are as follows:-

  • A mixture of fabrics for the pattern.

  • A jelly roll would work well although you wouldn’t need a whole one. I used a long quarter of 8 different fabrics - the more fabrics you use the ‘scrappier’ the result will look!

  • 50cm of a neutral colour for the contrasting strips

  • 15cm of a neutral fabric for the sashing on the quilt front ( I used the same fabric as the contrasting strips)

  • 1 ¼ m of backing fabric

  • 1 ¼ m of calico to be used as the foundation

  • 12 pieces of wadding measuring 10.5” squares of wadding (60cm of wadding cut from the bolt)

Equipment requirements are as follows:-

  • A Fabric Marker

  • Sewing Machine in good working order (and fluff free) with manual, feet including a ¼” foot and new needle (a walking foot if you have one).

  • Ruler, Rotary-Cutter and Mat.

  • General sewing kit (scissors, pins, sewing needles etc).

If you don't have enough strips lying around & ready to hand (unlikely!), you can pre-cut some of your fabrics before the class. You will need a mix of strips measuring from 1 inch to 2 ½ inches wide.

Tickets for this Online Interactive Workshop (via the Zoom platform) will be limited to 40 on a first-come/first-served basis!

Online Interactive Workshop - Jelly Roll Stars Quilt

This is a really fun quilt to make using your Jelly Roll and some background fabric and is a perfect class for beginners!

This simple quilt is created using 2 blocks – a star and a bordered square. Once you have learnt the method for both blocks you can make your quilt any size you like – just add fabric. You won’t get the quilt done in one class, but you can at least make a start! You will be given full instructions by tutor Sarah Payne after the class so you can complete the project at your leisure!

This example finishes less than 1m square – depending on the borders you add.

Fabric requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop are as follows:-

  • This quilt uses a jelly roll – but not a whole one. This size uses 16 strips. If you don’t have a jelly roll simply cut 32 strips from a selection of fat 1/4s measuring 2 ½ inches wide.

  • 1 m of white on white fabric (this includes an allowance for the binding)

  • Threads for piecing

Equipment requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop are as follows:-

  • Sewing machine in good working order with manual and all feet, bobbins and a new needle

  • Rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat

  • It is useful to have an easy angle (right angel or Half Square triangle) ruler and a square ruler. You can make the quilt without these rulers but your quilt will be slightly smaller.

  • Pre-cut – if you do not have a jelly roll then please cut 2 ½ inch wide strips from a selection of fat 1/4s.

Tickets for this Online Interactive Workshop (via the Zoom platform) will be limited to 40 on a first-come/first-served basis!
