Disrupting the Pattern!

We're absolutely delighted to welcome back the freshly awarded Winner of the Sustainable Quilting Award at this years's Festival Of Quilts, Russell Barratt, for a unique and inspirational brand NEW class. Here's what Russell has to say about his concept & thinking for this class!...
Introduction by Russell:-
While playing around with ideas for a larger quilt, I was looking through my fabric stash and found some with bold designs that I was not sure when to use. I began cutting them into strips then reorienting the strips to create new patterns. I was delighted by the new shapes and the changes in familiar fabrics. I particularly liked the results with fabrics printed with recognisable images – like a Kellogg’s Cornflakes tea towel! I thought this process would a fun idea for an experimental workshop where we play with colour and disrupt pattern. Using bold fabric designs and manipulating them to create new patterns can really lead to some truly unique and visually striking results. Let's all play together and see what we come up with, it's time to go with the flow!

What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-
This three-hour workshop is designed to inspire creativity and innovation in the art of quilting by exploring using strips of printed fabric to create unique, eye-catching patterns within a quilt block. You will have the opportunity to perhaps break free from your usual process as we encourage experimentation and help you to develop individual artistic voices. You can use any patterned or striped fabric, the more graphic the better! Printed vintage tea towels are ideal to use or a patterned fabric you bought a while ago and aren’t sure where to use it. We will first learn how to make a continuous bias binding, mixing two fabrics then use the binding as strips to machine sew into a log cabin block to throughly disrupt the original pattern. Take a step back and appreciate the new shapes created! These blocks could be repeated and made into a larger quilt or mixed with other blocks or patterns to create something truly unique.
