2020 Weekend Retreats & Workshops
SEWING & QUILTING

JW2020_MacBookProScreen_0520_01.jpg

Sadly, the current Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the United Kingdom (indeed the world) and, like the majority of events businesses, we have had to postpone or cancel a few of our planned courses, workshops and weekend retreats until it's clear that life can return to something like the normalcy we all once enjoyed.

On this page you'll find details of planned courses for 2020, assuming the UK Government releases the social distancing measures to allow small groups of people to once again meet in closed spaces. Where possible we are postponing courses/workshops/retreats until later this year; where this is not deemed practical we have cancelled courses/workshops/retreats with a view to re-booking venues in 2021 once everyone is up & running again and we are able to confidently make forward plans.

We trust this keeps you appraised of the current situation regards all CraftyMonkies courses, workshops and weekend retreats, but if you have any queries at all please contact us via email:-

hello@craftymonkies.com.

Sarah Payne - Saturday 3rd October 2020

Free Motion Embroidery

Sarah will show you how you can create a fun design using scraps of fabric and your free motion/embroidery foot on your sewing machine. Learn how to create your design, transfer it onto fabric and then 'draw' it with your sewing machine. This is a fun experimental class and you will end up with one or more raw edged appliqué and free motion stitched block that you can turn into a cushion, frame or use as the basis for a new quilt.

Here you will learn French seams, stitch in the ditch and handling a soft fabric to make this loose fitting top. The garment will be finished with a contrast band. Stunning fabrics for you to choose from will be detailed soon. A great top to learn from, and then you can make lots of these for yourself and friends! There will be a choice of materials available.

Strip Table Runner

Quilt-as-you-go with Sarah's Strip Table Runner! This technique will allow you to create and quilt large projects on a small machine because you will quilt it in small, bite-sized and manageable pieces. Once your block is completed you will quilt it and THEN sew the quilt together. This simple Strip Table Runner will help you get to grips with this technique, so that a double-bed quilt will no longer feel like an impossible task! Sarah will demonstrate how to use  a walking foot and create your masterpiece with or without sashing, and she will explain how the method you use will affect how you work your blocks.
