Introduction by Anne:-

I love to honour and repurpose old textiles, using hand and machine embroidery, vintage thread and string to add texture and character. My work has been described as 'small worlds' trapping and preserving pieces of embroidery and objects within it. I use a ‘netting- like’ machine embroidery stitch over the whole surface of the work. I further embellish with hand stitching and couching using a variety of media. I have written six books for Batsford and these complement my studio and teaching work. I have work in various public and private collections including the Embroiderers Guild and the Diana Springall British Embroidery Collection.

What you will learn on this Online Interactive Workshop:-

In this workshop you will be making a small needlecase from a piece of old or found quilted fabric.

Using the folk art theme (just what is that? Well, I will be teaching you that!) we will be designing and making the needle case choosing our own motifs and colour ways. The needle case can be made by hand or machine or both. This needle case could be a beautiful gift for yourself or for a friend, but the gift of this class is for you to take some time for yourself, to learn and meditative practice as well as some important skills.

Folk Heart Pin Cushion!

Pour the love into yourself or someone else and create a beautiful folk-inspired heart pincushion or ornament. Perfect as a thoughtful gift or a treat for yourself, this project gently introduces you to basic embroidery and embellishment techniques!

At CraftyMonkies, our aim is not only to teach you beautiful sewing techniques, but also to introduce you to sewing as a mindful and restorative practice. In this class, Anne Kelly gently guides you through slow stitch embroidery, sharing both her technical knowledge and her thoughtful approach to making. This class is about more than learning stitches. It’s an invitation to slow down, to carve out meaningful time for yourself, and to discover how embroidery can become a calming and grounding practice. The techniques you learn here can be returned to again and again - offering a simple way to de-stress by picking up your embroidery and losing yourself in an hour or two of quiet creativity. This class truly reflects our natural ethos at CraftyMonkies - that sewing is not just about learning skills, but about experience - connecting with yourself, sharing creativity within a community, and engaging with the wider world in a more mindful way!...
