Introduction to Leo:-

Leo Ransom is an award-winning quilt artist, educator, and pattern designer known for his striking fabric portraits and innovative approach to art quilting. With over 14 years of experience, Leo has mastered techniques that bring expressive realism to textile art, blending colour, texture, and composition to create deeply personal and visually captivating pieces.

 

Leo’s exceptional talent has earned him national recognition. His quilt Double the Hipster won first place in the Appliqué category at the 2022 QuiltCon in Phoenix, Arizona, and is now part of the International Quilt Museum's collection in Lincoln, Nebraska. His first award came in 2017 at the Dallas Quilt Show for John Lennon. He also dedicates time to community service through Lutheran World Relief quilts, using his artistry to give back​.

What you will learn on this Online Interactive Workshop:-

Leo will walk each student through making a portrait of flowers, animals and people by using only 2 fabrics. He will also discuss a little about creating a pattern and how to finish your piece, whether it be via quilting, framing or stretching onto a canvas bar. We will also talk about fabric selections at the beginning and embellishments at the end of the class!

Skill Level for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

Though this is very much a Beginner's class, it is suitable for all levels!

 

Material requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-​

• 2 x Fat Quarters with one being light in colour and the other dark in colour

• 1/2 yard of Heat N Bond Lite, Wonder Under or double-sided fusible of your choice but, please - NO Steam-A-Seam-Lite 2!!!

• Small Pointed Tip Scissors (Leo uses Kai 51 00 series with a curved tip)

• Straight Pins without plastic balls (eg: sequin, appliqué or dressmakers pins)

• Small Foam Core Board (to accommodate an 11 "x 14" project)

• Pattern - to be supplied by Leo to all who pay for this workshop

 

Fabric requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-​

Students will be able to watch a YouTube video on fabric selection and prepping these for the class, a link for which will be provided on this workshop info page just as soon as it's released by Leo...

• Ironing Board

• Rotary Cutter (with NEW blade)

• Cutting Mat

Pattern Information relevant to this Online Interactive Workshop:-

Leo's pattern/template is free and supplied by instructor to all who book this class. Students will need to have printed off the pattern prior to class in a size of  11”x 14-17ish”.  If they prefer, students can use a free programme/resource to select/print their own pattern of choice, entitled:-
