Hi! My name is Zack and I run my own nature inspired art company called Paper & Wood. In this TWO-hour workshop I’ll be teaching you how to make your very own 3D Wire Bird Sculpture! Over many years of playing with materials I have created many sculptures out of wire, paper and wood from what inspires me most, the beauty of the natural world! One of the main techniques I taught myself was to create wire armatures/skeletons for the main structure of my sculptures. After making a few I really fell in love with the process of drawing in 3D space and creating something very simple yet beautiful.
What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-
In this session you will learn the basics and fundamentals of taking a 2D drawing of a bird and building it into the 3D realm before your very eyes. You will learn how to turn a couple of spools of wire into something elegant and beautiful that stands alone as an art piece you’ll be displaying with pride on your shelf or mantelpiece at home. There is a choice of Robin, Wren or Sparrow for the class, each one will have it’s own unique quirks and character which you will be in love with by the end!
Skill Level for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
No prior experience with any materials needed! This is a very easy to follow class and Beginners will be confident in no time. The wire I use is very easy to bend copper craft wire, no extra hand strength needed, and even those who say they don’t have an artistic bone in their body leave with a gorgeous wire bird in their hand a huge grin of pride on their face. Not suitable for children under 12 due to the ends of the wire being sharp..
Material requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-The beauty and simplicity of this make is that you really don’t need many materials or equipment at all, so it is a very affordable and accessible craft!
- Copper craft wire or metal wire which is 0.9mm or 19 gauge in thickness
- Copper craft wire or metal wire which is 0.5mm or 24 gauge in thickness
