Off The Rails: Scrap Roll Up Part 2!
We're absolutely delighted to welcome back Kate Sandford! Kate isn't just a brilliant teacher, she's also full of clever ideas that make quilting fun and achievable. We were chatting about how amazing her Scrap Roll-Up class has been when she casually mentioned that people keep asking her, "But what do I do with it?" One of us said, "Well… isn't that a class?" And voilà! Here it is: Off The Rails: Scrap Roll-Up Part 2, a brand new class from Kate, just for you.

Haven't taken the original Scrap Roll-Up class? Don't worry! You don't need to as this is a standalone design class about strip piecing, a jelly roll or cut up fabric will work just as well, but if you want to rent the video from our video store for £25 here's the link: https://www.craftymonkies.com/product-page/video-of-workshop-kate-sandford-scraps-roll-ups
You have 60 days to watch it from the date you rent, so you'll be all set for February.

Introduction by Kate
After several sold-out scrap roll-up classes, I am thrilled to present my eagerly awaited follow-up workshop
Off The Rails: Scrap Roll-Up pt 2 answering the question "I have a roll-up, now what?" I often get asked, "Kate, why don't you just write patterns for a Scrap Roll-Up quilt?" The truth is, writing rigid patterns just isn't my passion. My passion is you—and sparking the kind of creative confidence that sets your imagination free. I love teaching classes with room for discovery, classes that open the doors to true creative freedom and empower individual quilters. I don’t want to hand you a pattern to follow; I want to teach you how to design your own! I don't want to give you a fish, I want to give you a rod, tackle box, and a map of the best fishing spots!!
I believe play should be a lifelong pursuit. When we play, we unlock new ideas, discover unexpected
combinations, and find the joy of creation. But as adults, we’re often told to put play aside, stick to the rules, and
buy someone else's pattern to make a "good" quilt. It's time to throw that rulebook away. In this workshop, I’ll share simple, liberating ways to brainstorm fresh ideas using just one simple block tailored for your Scrap Roll-Up. Together, we’ll explore how to design dynamic quilt layouts and use foundational techniques to generate endless ideas of your own.
My ultimate goal? For you to become so creatively confident that you never need to buy another quilt pattern
again—leaving you free to design and stitch truly original masterpieces that are 100% yours!
What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-
Get ready to throw out the rulebook and tap into infinite design possibilities! In this online interactive workshop,
you will learn that creating one quilt pattern is as easy as creating twenty. Using simple materials like wrapping
paper, paper, and card, I will show you how to brainstorm ideas for many quilts by exploring countless variations
on a single block—specifically the Rail block, which is wonderfully suited for quick, efficient strip piecing with your
Scrap Roll-Up. Together, we will build your own ideas bank, discover how to use a sketchbook like a quilt
designer, and learn to recognize your likes and dislikes regarding color, pattern, placement, tone, and scale.
Whether you've attended previous classes or are completely new, you'll learn shortcuts to making multiple paper
blocks, how to use different grids and scale up from paper sketches to full size quilts, and how to record ideas so
you can break away from making other people's patterns and design original masterpieces of your own.
