Stained Glass in Fabric!
It's always great when Vendulka pops in to see us, and we were particularly excited when she suggested bringing Stained Glass windows with her this time, our studio could always do with a freshen up, but then she explained it was a workshop! LOL! A brilliant one at that, so lets hear what she has to say about her inspiration behind the class...
Introduction by Vendulka:-
I have always loved the look of stained glass, whether it’s set into a front door or glowing in the windows of a
cathedral. And then, of course, there is the beautiful work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. So it was only a matter
of time before I tried to recreate that same effect in my favourite medium: fabric. My early pieces were strongly inspired by Mackintosh, but lately I’ve been exploring more modern designs and fresh takes on the stained glass look.
What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-
Working with a small rose sample, you’ll learn the technique I use to create my stained-glass designs. I’ll also
share how I design these pieces, from first idea to finished panel. By the end, you’ll have a lovely rose panel that
you can turn into a cushion, or build on to become part of a larger quilt. You’ll discover a quick and easy way to
create these designs using tape, which makes the whole process so much faster and simpler. You will create one small rose, and as a bonus, you will be able to choose one of my full-sized designs to make
outside the classroom.

Skill Level for this Online Interactive Workshop:
Confident Beginner

Material requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
-
1/4” black bias tape for Stained glass design (unless you’d like to use other colour – feel free) I recommend the Clover brand for its consistent quality.
-
0.5 m of bondaweb (17”/44cm wide )
-
Pencil and black marker (Sharpie)
-
Black thread or the colour of your bias tape

Fabric requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
-
I recommend choosing fabric with a small, non-contrasting print, colour-on-colour. Large high-contrast patterned fabric is not very suitable. Mottled effects, hand-dyed, batiks are all good.
-
For the rose, you will need small remnants of 4 different fabrics
-
The bonus design of your choice will have the requirement written.

Equipment requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
-
Scissors, fabric and paper
-
Iron
-
Ironing station about 12“ square (wool mat or thick towel on your worktop)
