FREE Online Interactive Workshop: Cluck-Cluck-Chicken Pattern Weight/Pin-Cushion!
The wonderful Gary Mills can't wait to host another of his FREE One-Hour Taster Workshops and we're sure you'll absolutely LOVE his Cluck-Cluck-Chicken Pattern Weight/Pin-Cushion project, a perfect introduction to creating something 'crafty' and an ideal insight into what a CraftyMonkies Online Interactive Workshop with one of our top craft experts is all about - we really hope you'll join Gary & Rachel for this one!…
Introduction by Gary:-
Here is an opportunity to join a fabulous CraftyMonkies Zoom workshop to make these adorable yet useful Chicken styled Pattern Weights - or you can simply turn them into a Pin-Cushion! If this is your first time joining us at CraftyMonkies or you have never joined in on a Zoom workshop before this class is aimed specifically for you to give it a try; all you need is two small squares of fabric, a couple of very small squares of felt, some thread and a needle and one hour spent on this workshop with me, Gary Mills, where I will carefully guide you through the process.
You will be amazed how easy these little chickens are to make once you have been shown the process… In no time at all you will have your very own brood nesting down in your workshop being very useful for all your future sewing projects; be that for holding a paper pattern down in place or even keeping your pins tidy…. Ouch! These feathered friends are also such a great scrap-buster. What isn’t there to like about this project?
This workshop will be full of FUN as always, the session will be relaxed with plenty of conversational chatter from Rachel and myself; we look forward to having you come along for this creative session!
What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-
The workshop covers simple hand stitching with a needle and thread. Or you can machine stitch if you wish. You will learn to cut out a simple square, cut small pieces of felt fabric for the details and follow a process in stages to achieve the outcome. There is measuring and easy sewing assembly and turning through to make the chicken.
Skill Level for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
This workshop is suitable for a beginner to sewing and accessory making, but also a beginner to taking part in a Zoom workshop
Material & Fabric requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
To Make one Chicken:-
2 x 4 ½” (inch) square of chosen cotton fabric (Gary has chosen a red and white theme for his chickens)
Matching colour sewing thread.
Small rectangle 2” x 4” red & yellow felt (although you can use woven fabric if that is what you have-to-hand)
For the eyes: 2 x 1/2” buttons or push through toy eyes (Gary has used the simple toy eyes you can purchase for most haberdashery stores, but a simple sewn button can be used!)
To stuff or weight the Chicken you can use 4oz of either dried rice or fresh cat litter (or similar) for the weighted chicken or for a pin cushion 2oz of polyester fibre toy stuffing.
Equipment requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
Sharp medium sized sewing needle
Fabric scissors
Small sewing scissors for cutting threads and trimming.
Tape measure, ruler, or quilting square to measure and cut 2x squares of fabric.
Either a fabric pen or pencil to mark points on the pattern
The following is optional but not necessary: pinking shears to cut the chicken’s comb edge, a bradawl if using the push through toy eyes, a chopstick or similar to push out the corners.
Note: You can use a sewing machine if you prefer for this project; a basic straight stitch size 2 – 2.5
is required and a medium sized needle size 10-12. Please have filled bobbins and threads ready for the start of the session. Please check that your sewing machine is working well; therefore, do run off some stitches on a scrap of fabric prior to the start of the session.
