Leo Ransom is back - and when you think of a lion, you can’t help but think of Leo! While his quilting might ROOOOAAAARRRRR with bold creativity, behind the sewing machine you’ll find an absolute gentleman. We’re thrilled to welcome Leo again after his first class was so warmly received. Students loved his thoughtful teaching style, patience, and kindness, along with the fascinating techniques he shared. This new class - Layered Portrait Magic - builds on ideas from his previous workshop and adds even more dimension to explore. If you joined the first class, you’ll have exciting new layers to play with - and if you’re new to Leo’s teaching, don’t worry at all. You can jump right in and start from scratch. It’s truly a win-win for everyone who signs up!

Introduction by Leo:-

Hi! I’m Leo Ransom. I’ve been quilting since 1998, beginning as a traditional quilter and later discovering the exciting world of art quilting in 2011. Since then, I’ve become a national award-winning quilter whose work has been juried into numerous shows. My passion is portrait quilting, and I love bringing images to life using three techniques: silhouettes, layered fabrics, and collage. I often blend traditional quilting with art quilting to create unique and expressive pieces. Teaching and sharing what I’ve learned is one of my greatest joys. I love helping students build confidence, experiment with new techniques, and discover just how creative quilting can be. If you’re ready to try something new and exciting, come create with me!

What you will learn on this Online Interactive Workshop:-

In this class, you’ll create a striking portrait of a lion using a fun and approachable technique similar to reverse appliqué - what I like to call the Cut-Away Process. This workshop goes well beyond the basics, and I’ll guide you step-by-step as we build the portrait together. Before class begins, you’ll choose your own colour palette so you’re fully prepared to dive in. Along the way, you’ll gain helpful insights into portrait design, fabric layering, and how to bring depth and personality into your quilted artwork and by the end of the workshop, you’ll have a beautiful lion portrait - and new skills you can use to create many more portraits in the future! Skill Level for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

Beginner to intermediate.

 

Material requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-​

• 5-7 Gradated Fat Quarters  (Video demonstration of colour selection will drop on YouTube on 01 April 2026)

• 1 1/2 yards of Heat N Bond Lite, Wonder Under, Transweb or double-sided fusible of your choice (Please: NO Steam-A-Seam Lite 2!!!)

• Small Pointed Tip Scissors (Leo uses Kai 5100 series with a curved tip)

• Straight Pins (without the plastic ball heads)

• Small Foam Core Board (Accommodates an 11"x 17" project)​

 

Equipment requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-​

• Tweezers

• Parchment Paper or Pressing Sheet

• 18mm or 28mm Rotary Cutters - ensure you have sharp blades!

The ticket price of £40.00 is based on ONE person attending this crafting class.
