Wild Flowers!
We're really excited to be hosting this Wild Flowers workshop with the wonderful & hugely talented Guest Tutor, Vendulka Battais! Who doesn't love a flower? These are spectacular, all you need to know is how you creatte them, join us and create them for yourself!
Introduction by Vendulka:-
I’m so delighted to be teaching again at the CraftyMonkies and bring you this Wild Flowers workshop that has unlocked creativity to hundreds of students I have taught it over the years. It is not teaching your rules, but rathe possibilities. I will show you many samples, talk about all the choices you have in how to bring flowers alive through the fabric medium but most importantly I will teach you how to make this wall hanging or cushion panel your own.
What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-
We will create a simple background using strips or one piece of an interesting fabric. Then you will choose from
several different flowers like Allium, Cow parsley, Lavender, Daisies and more. You will learn my simple composition planning tricks and we will talk about about the design principles such as variety and contrast that will be very important for this project. The flowers are created with the combination of machine and hand stitching and I will show you options to accommodate any level of skills. The beauty of the flowers is in their simplicity. The same stitch is repeated to create the desired flower, which means that even though you’re not experienced embroiderer, you will have only one stitch to learn and plenty practice of it before you finish.

Skill Level for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
From Beginner upwards - whatever your skill level, there will be new tips and tricks for you!

Material requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
-
Medium weight iron on interfacing - half a meter Bondaweb 25cm
-
Machine threads – matching your background fabrics, matching your leaf fabric and contrasting colour for stems
-
For the flowers – Embroidery threads ( my favourite ones are perlé 5 or 8) stranded cotton, sequins, seed beads, whatever catches your eye in your stash. I like using variegated threads, but plain colours are fine too.
Fabric requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
We will start by creating a „stripy“ background - for this choose fabrics with not very dominant pattern, best are mottled, batiks or colour on colour prints. I like to use one colour in varying shades - from dark to light. In this workshop we will work on max A4 size, so find one fabric that would look good as a background on it’s own OR you can use 5 strips 8 ½“ x 2 ¾“. Leaves are optional, but we will use an extra fabric for them - they can be in realistic or very whimsical abstract colours too. Small strip 3“ x 6“ will be sufficient.

Equipment requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-
-
Chenille Needles
-
Embroidery Hoop (optional)
-
Paper Scissors
-
Fabric Scissors
-
Sheet of A4 Paper
-
Sewing Machine - set up for Straight Stitch
