Online Interactive Workshop: Triaxial Weaving
The wonderful Judith Hollies will be joining us once again at the end of April; in this three-hour workshop Judith will help you get to grips with Weaving Fabric Strips (Triaxial Weaving), showcasing this excellent skill via no fewer than three examples!
Introduction/ by Judith:-
There are many ways to weave fabric strips together to create a range of designs, from the humble basket weave (weaving on 2 axis) to the more complex triaxial weave (weaving on 3 axis). By varying the widths of the strips and order of the weave, you can achieve a variety of striking woven designs which can then be made into beautiful handbags, cushions, baskets, purses and more! This is a really fun technique with dramatic results! The main part of this workshop will be concentrating on the triaxal weave which has an amazing three dimensional effect. Your completed panel is just the right size to make a Just Jude Designs Woven Basket so after your workshop you can use the bonus FREE pattern, included with your booking! The Wefty Needle is not essential for this class (a large safety pin works too) but it does make life a lot easier, especially for your hands. These are now in stock in my online shop (www.justjude-designs.com)!
I first designed my Triaxial Woven Basket as a class sample when I introduced weaving to my students 2 years ago. Of course I had to learn how to do it myself first! That took a lot of practice, and I focussed first on the Tumbling Blocks Pattern, but it was so exciting seeing the secondary patterns appear with each layer of strips. We started with the simpler Basket Weave (2 axis) before progressing to the more advanced Triaxial Weave (3 axis). My students were awestruck at their amazing results!
Concentration is needed each step of the way, but it really is a fun technique with dramatic and satisfying results! Choosing 3 fabrics that will contrast well with each other is key to achieving the Tumbling Blocks effect that we will be learning on the workshop!
