Online Interactive Workshop: Stitch & Style - Embroider Your Clothes!

We're delighted to welcome back Lucy Brennan for this amazing Stitch & Style Embroidery workshop - get ready to revive a multitude of tired clothes & garments in your wardrobe!...

Introduction by Lucy:-

Enjoy a game changing way to revive your wardrobe, using embroidery to decorate and embellish garments. You will learn how to decide on the placement, whether it be collars, pockets or on the body of the item; which are the best stitches to use and how to navigate the various stabilisers available to achieve neat embroidery and a clean finish that will last washing and look amazing. So whether you are wanting to personalise an item of clothing to gift to someone or to create unique and cool items to wear yourself, learn how to to stitch and style clothes with embroidery.

This class is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with embroidery experience. On the website entry you will see a variety of designs/patterns that I have created: we will not be using these in the workshop, rather you are free to source your own designs/patterns and I have provided a series of links to some designs in the Patterns section (see below).

What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-

  • Ideas for making new and old clothes more unique with embroidery
  • How to create your own patterns and use motifs or images you like for embroidery
  • The easiest ways to transfer designs
  • Different embroidery stitches that work well on clothes
  • Design placement
  • The best ways to use stabiliser and which ones work well on different fabrics
  • How to make sure the embroidery will last and look good through wear and washing

Suitable for all levels!

Material & Fabric requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

  • Clothes for embroidering
  • A selection of stabilisers, you may be able to use what you have or wish to purchase some from this list:
  • Woven Fusible stabiliser
  • Water-soluble stabiliser - such as DMC Magic Paper or Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy
  • Tear away stabiliser
  • Sew In stabiliser

Please note you do not need all these varieties, they are useful for different types of fabrics and finishes which will be covered in class!

Equipment requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

  • Embroidery designs or motifs you want to stitch / iron transfers patterns (see below)
  • Water erasable fabric pen/pencil
  • Embroidery floss - a selection of colours
  • Embroidery needle - you may want a selection of sizes for sewing with different numbers of threads
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Thimble (optional)
  • Embroidery Hoop or frame (optional)
