Online Interactive Workshop: Juniper Basket

Gracing the CraftyMonkies brand once again, her first Workshop of 2022, is firm fan-favourite Svetlana Sotak, who returns to teach a class she first ran with us back in September 2020, shortly after we began our Online Interactive Workshops on Zoom - introducing once again: Juniper Basket!

On this occasion we also have a BONUS offer with this workshop, as Svetlana has kindly agreed to supply all participants with a Fat-Quarter Bundle (XS size)!...

Make a super-handy fabric basket featuring a unique, Japanese inspired drawstring closure using easily accessible sewing supplies and materials. In this class we'll learn how to add structure and stability to your basket as well as how to install and neatly finish a welted zipper pocket (either metal or nylon zipper will both work well). This basket makes a wonderful project bag, storage basket, or even a gift bag!

Subject to which size bag you are interested in making, the following materials are required for this Online Interactive Workshop with Svetlana, which will see you the proud owner of a Small or Large Juniper Basket!

Svetlana's pattern (essential for this project) is included in your course fee and will be forwarded to you, shortly after you've signed up for the course!:-

Juniper Bag - Finished Size (Width x Height x Depth):-

SMALL  -  9''  x  7''  x  6''

LARGE  -  11''  x  8 ½''  x  7''

SMALL Juniper Basket

Materials needed: (Fabric requirements are based on 42'' wide fabric):-

FABRIC A (main exterior) – 1/2 yard

FABRIC B (drawstring closure + handles) – 1/4 yard

FABRIC C (lining) – 3/4 yard

* Fusible fleece (I use Pellon 987F) - 1/2 yard

SF101 INTERFACING (or other medium weight fusible interfacing of choice) – 1 yard

One (1) - 7'' long METAL OR NYLON ZIPPER

Two (2) – 36'' long COTTON CORD or RIBBON

* Replace fusible fleece with heavier weight interfacing (e.g. 809 Decor Bond) if you wish

LARGE Juniper Basket

Materials needed: (Fabric requirements are based on 42'' wide fabric):-

FABRIC A (main exterior) – 1/2 yard

FABRIC B (drawstring closure + handles) – 1/2 yard

FABRIC C (lining) – 3/4 yard

* Fusible fleece (I use Pellon 987F) - 1/2 yard

SF101 INTERFACING (or other medium weight fusible interfacing of choice) – 1 yard

One (1) - 7'' long METAL OR NYLON ZIPPER

Two (2) – 39'' long COTTON CORD or RIBBON

* Replace fusible fleece with heavier weight interfacing (e.g. 809 Decor Bond) if you wish

Ruler

Rotary Cutter

Wonder Clips and/or Pins

Disappearing Fabric Marker or Fine Chalk Pen

Small Sharp Fabric Scissors

90/14 or 110/18 (jeans/denim) Needle for your Sewing Machine

Large Safety-Pin or Bodkin
