Saturday 29 February + Sunday 01 March 2020: Photography

Our fun-filled, easy to follow Photographic Workshops will teach you how to take much better photographs that will keep those memories alive for years to come. You will learn how to properly engage with the camera, understand about how to best work with and move away from the default automatic settings! We look at how best to frame your subjects and landscapes better and capture that person or place in that special moment in time.

No previous experience is needed! Our tutor is Jake Whiteley, a professional photographer who’s worked with celebrities, sportsmen, families, landscapes and brides! His work has featured in print and digital media advertising campaigns and he is regularly booked for private events (if you would like to book him for a portrait session, or event please contact us on hello@craftymonkies.com). Jake has a burning passion for photography: it's rare to see him without a camera! He has so much he wants to teach so that you can experience the joy he does every time he looks through his lens. Even if you know how to use your camera, but still feel there is more to learn, please come along and meet some like-minded new friends along the way!

Oulton Hall Hotel in West Yorkshire, is located a few miles from the M62 and M1, is approx 25 minutes from Leeds and 8 miles from Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

Landscape & Portrait Photography

We aim to have no more than eight people on our Photographic Workshops. This ensures lots of one-to-one tuition and attention. Your day begins at 9.00am with informal introductions between the photographer and members of the group. Following this we will be transported to the beautiful setting of Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Bretton, which will provide the basis for our Landscape and Portrait Workshop. We will explore how to best work with available natural light, composition, introducing drama/storytelling into your photos, working with angles and investigating how best to capture individual and group portraits and moody landscapes. During the day we will break for lunch & refreshments within Bretton Sculpture Park and return to the hotel (transport provided) for approx 4.00pm.

Urban Photography

We aim to have no more than eight people on our Photographic Workshops. This ensures lots of one-to-one tuition and attention. Your day begins at 9.00am with informal introductions between the photographer and members of the group. Following this we will be transported to the lively hub of Leeds, which will provide the basis for our Urban Photography workshop. We will explore how to best work with available natural light, composition, introducing drama/storytelling, working with angles and investigating how best to capture cityscape scenes via such as reflections, architecture, skylines, hustle & bustle, people-watching, etc. During the day we will break for lunch/refreshments and return to Oulton Hall (transport provided) for approx 4.00pm.

Here's what you will need for your course:-

• Your own camera (preferably a bridge-camera or DSLR) 

• Waterproof/warm-weather clothing & appropriate footwear, subject to the time of year & location of your course and the planned subject on your particular day/days 

• Bags of enthusiasm, an open mind and willingness to learn new things and engage with friendly people like you!
