Online Interactive Workshop: Colour Block Tote Bag

Join the lovely Lisa Lam to learn how to make this on-trend Colour Block Tote (Shoulder) Bag that will beautifully showcase your best fabrics. Have fun experimenting with practical faux leather or choose to use your favourite fabrics. Try your hand at making eye-catching eyelet handles or stitch on your straps. This is a fun and versatile bag: make it your way! No pattern or templates required for either bag option, instead we will send you cutting instructions in advance of the class. Whichever options you chose, Lisa will show you how easy it is to make this fabulously stylish and practical tote!

Techniques covered in this online interactive workshops are as follows:-:

  • Working with faux leather
  • Using interfacing and fleece
  • Installing eyelets
  • Installing magnetic fasteners
  • Making an envelope style bag base

Materials and hardware you will need for this online interactive workshop are as follows - fabrics are dependent on the option you choose. There are 2 options:-

Option 1

  • * 0.5m PU fabric for base
  • 0.5m light-med weight canvas (such as https://thevillagehaberdashery.co.uk/collections/fabric/substrate_canvas) for bag top band

* The PU needs to be purchased from my shop because I can guarantee that the PU from my shop is easy to sew with on home sewing machines. I cannot vouch for PU purchased elsewhere.

Option 2

  • 0.5m light-med weight canvas (such as https://thevillagehaberdashery.co.uk/collections/fabric/substrate_canvas) for base
  • 0.5m light-med weight canvas (such as https://thevillagehaberdashery.co.uk/collections/fabric/substrate_canvas) for bag top band

Materials needed for both bag options are as follows:-

  • 1m quilt weight fabric for lining
  • 1m Vilene Fusible fleece (H640)
  • 1m Vilene med weight fusible non woven interfacing F220/304
  • 1 x 14mm magnetic snap for lining pocket
  • 1 x 18mm magnetic snap for bag fastener
  • 1 x 26cm x 33cm stiff plastic canvas for bag base stiffener
  • 1 x 14mm wide eyelet kit (colour to suite top band of bag) – optional if you want tied-on bag straps

Lisa has created a special CraftyMonkies web page at her u-handbag.com shop, so you can buy all the materials you need (apart from fabric, but you probably have that one sorted!) in one location:-
